Mike Paget is a recent Columbia graduate. Mike Paget has been investing in stocks since he was 16 years old. Mike Paget says that I’ve read countless books and developed my own successful stock market strategies over time while managing my own money, and now I want to teach them to you. My strategies fall under the category of trend following. Rather than trying to predict what will happen in the future (that’s impossible), I ride the momentum of stocks. If a stock is going up, I buy the stock and hang on for the ride. If a stock is going down, I sell the stock short and profit when everyone else is losing money. By riding waves in stock prices like a surfer, I am able to consistently profit from upswings and downswings in the market. My strategies are designed to be performed in my spare time and take just a few minutes a day to implement, so you can still have a full-time job while using my strategies to invest.

I can’t guarantee you how much money you can expect to make from these strategies because I’m not giving you stock recommendations. I’m giving you a toolbox, a collection of mindsets and techniques so that you can become independent and make your own recommendations. Your success all depends on how much money you have to invest, the type of system that you create, how well your system has been tested to perform throughout the past, and how closely you follow your system once you develop it.

What I can guarantee you, however, is that my techniques enable you to take control of your financial future. My techniques will put you in charge of your own investing decisions. My techniques will save you thousands on exorbitant mutual fund fees that should be going into your account. My techniques will enable you to make money in up and down markets.

Regardless of how much you know about the stock market right now, I will turn you into a proud, independent investor and provide you with all the tools at your disposal to become a success. My book will take you from knowing absolutely nothing about the market to developing your own successful, historically-tested system for making money in the stock market in a matter of hours.

Top 10 Public Speaking Tips

10 Richard Kaloust Tips By Trevor Johnson.

So you’ve got to give a speech in public? Once your stomach stops churning, here are some public speaking tips that should make your job easier.

1. Outline your speech

Write out what you are going to talk about. Your outline should cover all the points you want to make in your speech. Ideally in a reasonably logical order.

2. Make notes

One of the easiest ways is to use old-fashioned 3×5 index cards. Each one should have a bullet point on it that you can expand on. If you’re using a PowerPoint slide show then this should give you the basis for your notes.

3. Practice your presentation

Stand in front of a mirror and practice your speech. If you’re likely to be embarrassed, do this while no-one else is at home. Speaking out loud is a necessary part of this practice. Sure, it may be uncomfortable the first few times you try it but you’ll get better as you go along. Note where you stumble – this gives you pointers for where you need to change your speech slightly.

4. Talk to one person

It doesn’t matter whether you’re talking in a business meeting with one other person or addressing hundreds or even thousands of people. Talk as though you are talking face to face with one person. Apart from anything else, you’ve done this all your life so it should be easier. If you’ve got a large audience, focus on one person and talk to them.

5. Stay away from humor

Unless you’re a renowned after dinner speaker, humor is best left out of your speech. Not everyone shares the same sense of humor – otherwise Friends and South Park wouldn’t both still be on air – so keep it out of your presentation.

6. Don’t fidget

If you’ve got a podium then there’s a natural place to put your hands. If you haven’t, be aware of what your doing with your hands and don’t fidget with them or gesture too much. Fidgeting makes you look nervous!

7. If you stumble, carry on

Most of your audience will be relieved that it’s not them giving the speech. If you stumble, recover as fast as you can. Do your best not to get flustered and make sure you keep your place in your speech so you can recover from any glitches quickly.

8. Keep it short

Unless you’ve been told that you absolutely have to speak for a set amount of time, stick to the idea that less is more. Don’t bore your audience. Ideally they should be wanting more when you’ve finished your set speech.

9. Don’t resort to alcohol

Tempting as it may be to have a shot of something before you take to the stage, it’s better to be 100% sober and in control.

10. Ignore distractions

Unless the fire alarm has just sounded and you all need to leave the building, keep going! Keep your speech going as planned. Don’t panic if one or two of your audience walk out – they may just have had an urgent message or need to answer a call of nature. And make sure your cell phone is turned off as well!

The Benefits of Renewable Energy Solutions

By Paul R. Boyer

Some people may not want to admit it, but the world is slowly moving towards an energy crisis. Non-renewable resources such as fossil fuels are much closer than people think to becoming extinct. We have always known that the everyday energy we use is not unlimited, yet it is constantly taken for granted. Oil, gas, power, even water has limited availability. Yet, we have not taken nearly enough precautions to deal with a very real threat of an energy crisis. When I say ‘we’, I am not referring to the governments of the world, but to all of us, the common people. We are the ones who can make a difference.

To neutralize this crisis, it is important that we learn to reduce our dependency on energy sources that are non-renewable and start focusing on energy solutions that can provide us with a continuous source of energy that will not exhaust any resources. There are 3 main sources of energy which fall into this category: hydro energy, wind energy, and solar energy.

First, let’s look at hydro energy.

Hydroelectricity is the most widely used form of renewable energy in the world. It is typically generated on a large scale by way of hydroelectric dams. Although it is indeed a renewable source of energy, hydro energy comes with some drawbacks. Hydroelectric projects have been known to have negative effects on surrounding aquatic ecosystems. One example, is there are studies that have shown that dams along the Atlantic and Pacific coasts of North America have reduced salmon populations due to their preventing access to spawning grounds upstream. A major disadvantage to hydroelectricity although rare, is the risk of dam failure. In Southern China, the Banquio Dam failure resulted in the deaths 171,000 people and left millions homeless. Although it is an effective source of renewable energy, it is not as environmentally friendly as the other 2 main sources of renewable energy, wind and solar power.

Let’s look at wind energy.

Windmills have been around for thousands of years. They are older than electricity itself. In pre-industrialization times, they were used to propel sailboats and ships, they were used to pump water, and they were used as a means of natural ventilation in buildings.

Wind power has many advantages: It causes absolutely no pollution whatsoever. It consumes no fuel and has practically no effects on the environment at all. Wind energy can help generate tonnes of megawatts of electricity. When employed at home, it can help do away with conventional power sources which will reduce your electricity bill and can even eliminate it altogether. Wind power is an excellent source of continuous, renewable energy.

Finally, let’s look at solar energy.

Solar power is by far the most available source of continuous, renewable energy on the planet. It is easily capable of providing the world’s total current energy demand many times over. Solar power solutions at home are another way of dramatically cutting down power bills or even completely eliminating them altogether. Also, solar power has no effect on the environment whatsoever. It is the most environmentally friendly source of energy in the world.

How to Save Energy

By Peter Payne

Article reviewed by Rabbi Yitzhak Miller

Ever hear about the energy problems in the world and consider how to save energy, reduce your bills, and help the planet a bit?

I don’t know about you, but I get tired when I hear about the nearly endless amount of problems that threaten our environment each day. Doesn’t it seem as though the only possible remedies out there are widespread, national, even international solutions?

Instead of that, I want to hear about the small changes that I as an individual can make that will help our energy crisis. So I’ve done a little research for everyone’s sake and have come up with a few basic methods of how to save energy that pretty much anyone can follow.

First, and rather obviously, is to use your automobile as little as you can. I dislike hearing about ideas that are so unrealistic that they could never ever happen. But maybe, just maybe, we can all look for little and simple ways to share rides or use buses to reduce how much we drive every day. Use techniques like carpooling or leaving one car at home to help with the energy crisis. Or even better, look for every occasion to walk or ride a bicycle.

Another idea for how to save energy is to shut off lights during the day and let the natural light of the sun illuminate your room or office. I cannot tell you the number of homes and offices I have entered in the middle of the day that had lights blaring while the sun was beating in from outside. So take a careful look around you and see what extra lights and other gizmos you have plugged in that you really don’t need to use all of the time. You could save lots of energy just by unplugging a few things.

There is a very good chance that everyone reading this has a at least one little thing that they could do save energy each day. The world may not be changed by one more order from the government, but it just might be changed as individuals do their part in helping find and use methods of alternative energy. Spread the word, teach your friends how to save energy, and our world just might find itself a little better for the effort.

Porcelain Collectible Dolls – A Guide to Essentials

Chuck Hughes Collectible Dolls By Simon Harris.

Archaeologists tell us that dolls have been around for a long, long time — thousands of years in fact. Ancient civilizations, such as the Babylonians and Greeks, had them. When dolls were used primarily as a children’s playthings they were usually constructed very simply, using everyday materials such as wood or clay or stone.

As human society moved into the industrial period, it became possible to produce less crude, and more refined toys such as dolls. Whereas in previous generations little girls may have played with dolls that were very simply made out of leftover fabrics and stuffed with leaves and straw — today’s young girls play with dolls which are anatomically correct and equipped with high fashion accessories. And there is perhaps no other area of doll collecting which is more popular today than porcelain doll collecting.

Porcelain Dolls — the Manufacturing Process

Porcelain is actually a highly refined form of clay. In the manufacturing process of porcelain dolls, water and clay are mixed together. This clay in a liquid state (or at least a very runny state) is then poured or injected into a head mold. The mold is then placed into an oven and baked at thousands of degrees of temperature. The porcelain head (and the head is usually what is made of porcelain) can then be embellished with facial features.

In addition, porcelain doll heads are typically glazed after being decorated. This glazing adds strength and durability to the porcelain. You may find some dolls being advertised as “Bisque” — this is simply porcelain that has been left unglazed. As you might imagine, Bisque is very fragile.

The Value of Provenance

Porcelain collectible dolls most likely to increase in value will be dolls that have a provenance. The provenance of any collectible is the history surrounding the manufacture and ownership of the item: where it was made, by whom, when it was made, who owned it, where it was seen, where it was used, where it traveled to, etc.

The value of provenance is that it helps to “anchor” a collectible item in time and in history. A documented provenance also helps to ensure that the item is not a forgery or a reproduction. Whenever possible, try to ensure that any porcelain dolls that you add to your collection have such a documented history.

Do Your Research!

Before making a purchase made sure to research the piece thoroughly. Look for any distinctive identifying markings on your doll — markings and numberings are often found near the neck or head, or sometimes along the back of the doll. Note the overall size, as well as any accessories that may be included with your doll.

Once you have carefully examined the piece that you wish to purchase, you can consult a number of different printed or Internet sources in an effort to locate and verify the manufacturer, date, and place of manufacture.

It is essential that you learn to do your own research before making purchases. Over a period of time you must build up a storehouse of knowledge — if you do not, you will always be forced to depend on the knowledge of third party “experts”.

What Can Affect the Value of Porcelain Collectible Dolls?

Of course one of the things that can significantly impact the value of any porcelain collectible doll is the overall condition of the piece. Porcelain that is cracked or chipped, or possessing areas where the paint has come off, will be worth less than dolls that are in pristine condition.

Another thing that can affect the value of your doll are its accessories. If your doll has its original accessories (such as shoes and hats and purses) it will be worth more than just the doll itself.
